I am a very distrustful person. I do not want any of my data to reside anywhere but on my desktop. I was using Quicken Mobile, but have since quit because it duplicated all of account data and do not plan to use it again. I do not know how to turn it off, so I disabled all of the accounts but a very old expired credit card account and then removed the app from my Iphone.

The simplest means of using Quicken without mobile/web is to sign in as a different user in Edit>Preferences>Quicken ID and then sign back in with your existing credentials. During sign in, choose the Do Not Use Mobile option. There will still be a 'shell' cloud account created but it will no longer contain your financial account data.
  • I did this. One-step update still has the web update option. Not only that, the option is enabled by default. So I have to disable it every time I do a one-step update.

I have been successfully downloading transactions from my bank into Quicken up until about a month ago. When I click the update icon, Quicken goes through the motions connecting, submitting the password, and downloading transactions, BUT no transactions are downloaded.

I have also tried importing a QFX file for the same account, but Quicken reports an import 'failure'. I checked with my bank and they do not report any problems and I have had no problem with their online banking.

Even if you get the disc recognized (ISO) it won't do with Easy Install or with any install. Microsoft has forced the OEM discs to be sold as crippled, so you can ONLY install them from the same install disc to the same hardware, so e.g. Discs that come with Dell D620 will work only with Dell D620, not on Dell 930, not on Acer, not on Macs. It happens because you are using an OEM installation disc. If you had non-OEM discs, you could just point to the location to the ISO file / install disc, and it'd be ready to install. The only way you might be able to get past this was if you installed the OEM Windows on your legal PC hardware, so on the hardware those Windows install discs were sold with. If would help if you had told us which bank(s) you are having issues with. There are some known troublemakers out there ..
Please try the following: Deactivate all accounts using the same bank and user ID, then reactivate them.
    To (re-)activate accounts for downloading
Be careful with activating accounts for download, please! Look before you leap. There might be sharks in the water ..
Before you (re-)activate any account I recommend
1- make a backup of your Quicken file.
2- turn off 'automatically accept downloaded transactions into registers', either globally (in Edit / Preferences / Downloaded transactions) or for this specific account (in Edit Account Details / Online Services tab / 'Auto Entry is: ON/OFF')
3- during activation, very carefully scrutinize the 'list of accounts found at your bank' and verify that Quicken is correctly LINKing the account at the bank with the existing Quicken account. If the offered choice appears incorrect, click the LINK / ADD / IGNORE button in the line for each account and make changes, as needed (e.g., click the ADD button, change it to LINK and select the existing Quicken account to use). Repeat for each account shown and select the correct choice.
4- During the first download you will get 2 - 3 months' worth of transactions downloaded from the bank. Review each downloaded transaction and look at which register transaction Quicken wants to match it to. Make corrections as needed. This will help Quicken build proper Renaming Rules for each Payee Name encountered and make it easier for future transactions to match automagically.
5- In the event of a horrible shark encounter or some other problem .. see item 1 and restore the data file from the backup, then try again.

Many FI's are currently updating their servers to TLS 1.2 to address security vulnerabilities. If your FI offers free direct connect services you should be setting up your accounts in Quicken to use direct connect. If there is a fee for direct connect and you do not want to pay it, using Web Connect to download a QFX file from the FI website is the next most reliable. If you use Express Web Connect then you will experience connection issues periodically.
Make sure Win 7/8 is current with all MS updates. Next reset your Internet options for the Security, Privacy and Advanced tabs to their defaults. Then in the Advanced tab un-check SSL 2.0 and 3.0. Check TLS 1.0, 1.1, 1.2. Reboot and try again. Even if you use a browser other than IE, Quicken uses only IE to connect to the internet.
Note older OS's like XP and Vista should be updated to IE9. They are limited to TLS 1.0.
Quicken's Express Web Connect (EWC) servers have not yet been upgraded to use the newer more secure TLS 1.2 protocol so TLS 1.0 needs to be active if you have EWC accounts. While it might work for now, it's time to consider updating to the current millennium as TLS 1.0 will be removed from servers in the near future to ensure data security.
You may want to read up on the security vulnerabilities of SSL 2.0 and 3.0 before using them in your browser to access and transmit any secure/private data.
